Watch Care Guide

A little routine care can help preserve the appearance and performance of your watch.

Water resistance

Water-resistance ratings are not permanent and seals can deteriorate. Do not operate crowns or pushers underwater. Unless the watch is specifically rated for the activity, avoid swimming, showering and high-pressure water. Have seals pressure-tested after battery changes or case opening.

Cleaning

Use a soft, dry microfibre cloth for routine cleaning. For a water-resistant metal bracelet, a lightly damp cloth may be suitable, but keep leather straps and non-water-resistant cases dry. Avoid solvents, household cleaners and abrasive materials.

Magnetism and impact

Keep mechanical watches away from strong magnets and avoid sharp impacts. Magnetism can affect accuracy; a watchmaker can usually demagnetise a watch quickly.

Mechanical and automatic watches

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for winding and setting. Do not force the crown. Avoid changing the date during the movement’s date-change period where the manufacturer warns against it.

Batteries and servicing

Replace depleted quartz batteries promptly to reduce leakage risk. Service intervals depend on the movement, use and manufacturer guidance. Use a competent watchmaker for pressure testing, battery replacement, bracelet adjustment and servicing.
